“Cartmel Food Market”

We’re pleased to inform you that Cartmel Village now runs a Food Market on the 3rd Friday of each month in The Priory and is a “must visit” for all foodies and lovers of fresh locally grown produce. Mmmm!

New shops opened in the village last year, a bread shop selling breads and pastries, not the cheapest  bread in the world though! Brad also available from the Village shop. You can find links to their web sites on the links page, a cheese shop and a micro brewery are also in Unsworths Yard. Also in Unsworths Yard is a Gin bar with out door seating.

Inn the square there is Perfect English, a gift shop.

One of my favourite places is Brantwood, on the shore of Lake Coniston opposite the village of Coniston. Home of Ruskin, it is a real Arts & Crafts house and has a fantastic tea room with log fires. In Coniston there is a small Ruskin museum that also houses what is left of Donald Campbell's Bluebird, from his failed water speed record attempt, a wonderful place to pass an hour or so.

Walking to Hampsfell. Overlooking the village is Hampsfell. At the to is th 'Hospital' but do not expect to find any doctors or nurses. It is a great walk on th doorstep and comands magnificent views across the bay. www.limestone-pavements.org.uk
